I sell earth mined, hand cut gemstones. 

The world is awash in man made gems and glass filled gems. 

As with all things in this world, value comes from supply and demand. Man made gems are perfect.... but they can be produced in unlimited quantities, making them next to worthless. 

Glass filled "gems" are not considered gems... they are basically glass... and also in the vast majority of cases next to worthless. GIA reports describe glass filled rubies as " a manufactured product consisting of lead glass and ruby. Unstable to high temperatures and chemical agents." The vast majority are more glass than low grade ruby and most household cleaners and even lemon juice will ruin them! Don't waste your money.  

The vast majority ( about 98%) of rubies and sapphires have been heat treated. It is totally accepted in the trade. Some treatments done while heating are virtually undetectable without very sophisticated ( and expensive) equipment. But, if they are stable they are accepted by the trade. If you are adverse to any sort of treatment, I offer unheated sapphires and rubies. Unheated are rarer, and therefore more expensive. 

Bear in mind that, unlike man made gems, real gems are very rarely perfect. Each one is unique. Expect flaws. The finest sapphires and rubies can wholesale for tens of thousands of dollars!
