Aquamarine

 Aquamarine wholesales to the trade today for approx. $8 for a 1 cwt stone of very low grade quality to approx. $700 for  a one carat example of extra fine quality. The price goes up to approx. $1,200 per cwt. for extra fine larger examples. The retail price will be several times that, depending on the retailers markup.  

Aquamarine is the birthstone for those born in March. It is in the beryl family, along with emerald. The name comes from the Latin for water of the sea, and was considered a good luck talisman by ancient sailors. it is said to have a calming influence and be good luck for the wearer, and is said to inspire truth. It is 7.5 to 8 on the mohs scale.
